The Vietnamese seed market was valued at USD 967.3 million in the year 2017 and is expected to reach USD 1632.1 by 2023, growing at a robust CAGR of 8.2% over the forecast period. Vietnam is one of the largest importers of seeds in the Asia-Pacific region. Around 83% of seeds are sourced by Vietnam and 60% of those come from ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries.
Rice Dominates the Seed Sector in Vietnam
Vietnam is the world’s fifth-largest rice-producing country with local centers and institutes that have bred 260 inbred rice varieties and 70 hybrid rice varieties. To spread seed production in Vietnam, an in-country training program was organized to teach seed technology to seed growers through the help of different organizations, such as the local extensions department, the hybrid rice research center, and ADB/IRRI project. F1 seed production of rice in the country decreased in the recent years, owing to decline in subsidy from the government by 10% and increase in cost of inputs like fertilizer chemicals and labor made the situation difficult for seed growers. Private and joint ventures of foreign seed production companies, which purchased exclusive rights to produce and sell hybrid rice seeds, have restricted local seed growers to a large extent. The use of input-responsive modern varieties, sufficient fertilizers, and an increase in the proportion of rice area (93.4%) under irrigation account for the high yields in recent years.
Chillies and Peppers Play a Significant Role in the Seed Sector
Vietnam is one of the major producers of chilli and pepper, which are among their top vegetable crops, economically. The short, erect type is the flagship type, which occupies more than 90% of the Vietnamese market. The main varieties are East-West’s “EW207” and local company Chenh phong’s “Chenh phong No.1”. “F 1 -20” was replanted in the central Dalat region and is similar to “Hot Chilli” varieties supplied by the local company, Southern Seed Company. EW207 is a popular variety grown in Tien Giang area, which is the most famous pottery complex in Vietnam. It has a sales volume of close to 5,000 kgs, with a market share of 60%. Recently, “Chenh phong No.1”, which is a competitive cultivar, has gradually been replaced, replacing the “EW207” market.
Increasing Importance of Maize
Maize is Vietnam’s second largest annual crop, after rice, in terms of cultivated area. However, maize production area is located only where other better cash crops cannot be grown or where there is a lack of water for other cash crops, intercropped after a better cash crop. Maize is one of the several local crops, such as cassava and rice (broken rice, rice bran), which are used to supply the quickly-growing seed industry. Local maize production has not been able to satisfy the demand in recent years, which has led to the import of maize at volumes of about 2.0 million tons every year. In March 2015, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) signed Decision 69/QD-CTCLT, which recognized three genetically modified maize varieties of Syngenta Co., and this was an official allowance for production of GM maize for commercialization in Vietnam. In commercial maize-producing villages, hybrid maize replaced old OPV cultivars and traditional maize varieties and made up 89% of the total maize grown.
Major Key Players: Vietnam National Seed Joint Stock Company, Southern Seed Company, Bioseed Company Vietnam, Dekalb Vietnam Company Ltd. (Monsanto), Syngenta Vietnam, East-West Seed, among others.
Key Developments in the Market
- October 2017: Top companies aim to develop seed production technologies. Vinaseed and Thai Binh Seed have modern drying, processing and packaging systems, which can control up to 70.5% of seed production technology, with 90 percent for purebred rice and 66 percent for hybrid rice.

Vietnam Tourism Industry
Vietnam which for long was globally known as a place of conflict has emerged in the 21st century as one of the brightest emerging markets for tourism around the world. Vietnam receives more tourists than even India, which is a country much bigger than size itself. Close to 8 million tourists visited Vietnam in 2014 and Vietnam ranked 12th in the Asia Pacific region in terms of tourist arrivals. In terms of travel and tourism competitiveness Vietnam ranks 75th globally.
After seeing double digit rates of growth from the years 2010-2013, the growth rate in tourist arrivals have come down in recent years. One of the reasons for the fall in the number of tourists visiting Vietnam is the failure of the local authorities to maintain the pristine attractions, and also due to massive increases in pollution and traffic in the last few years. Another reason which has similarly affected India as well is the security situation. Most of the tourists feel unsafe roaming around Vietnam, which has been afflicted by robberies, thefts, mugging of tourists. Also Vietnamese authorities to compensate for fewer arrivals have been increasing the visa fees, which have again served as a deterrent to tourists.
But the fact remains that Vietnam has one of the most beautiful cultures, sights and sceneries in the region which really attract foreign visitors. More people want to visit Vietnam, and if certain issues like security, visa costs etc are resolved by the Vietnamese authorities, the tourism industry which has stagnated in recent times will boom again.
One of the reasons deterring the influx of tourists is the high cost. In recent times the cost of visiting Vietnam is increased rapidly due to expensive accommodation and general travel. Vietnamese currency has depreciated against the US Dollar, which has made travelling in Vietnam expensive. But another major reason is the lack of affordable, modern accommodation which deters the budget tourist. Also there is massive shortage of luxury hotels in Hanoi, which deters the HNI tourists who can boost the tourism industry visiting Vietnam.
But Vietnam offers many such opportunities in the tourism industry, and now is the perfect time and opportunity to invest in the same and reap the benefits in future.
With a population of 90.7 million, Vietnam is the 37th largest economy of the world. Even though the tourism industry has run into difficulties in recent times, but is expected to grow strongly in the future. The Tourism industry in Vietnam is expected to grow at a CAGR of XX.XX% till 2020.

Vietnam is among the countries pushing hard to develop power generation from coal. Coal’s advantage is low cost, stability of electricity generation, and an economically feasible supply of cheap resources that will last for more than 100 years. Moreover, Renewable energy is also garnering stronger support in the country as it allows rural population to gain quick access to electricity. In addition, renewables help reduce emissions and imports of fossil fuels. But most renewable generation methods remain more costly than conventional fuel. For this reason, renewable power plant projects typically need support from government programs such as feed-in tariffs.
This report comprehensively analyzes the Vietnam Power Generation EPC market by segmenting it based on type of projects, and EPC Market Players. Key drivers and restraints that are effecting the growth of this market are discussed in detail. The study also elucidates on competitive landscape and key market players.

Vietnam Prefabricated Buildings Industry Study
The market was valued at USD XX billion in 2017 and is projected to reach USD XX billion by 2022, registering a CAGR of XX%, during 2017-2022 (the forecast period).
Prefabricated buildings (also known as prefabs) are the building structures manufactured offsite and are transported to the location for on-site assembly. Prefabricated construction materials can be classified into two types – concrete-based and metal prefabricated products. Some of the metal prefabricated components that have high market demand are: frames, partition panels, door and window frames, metallic roof systems, formworks at different levels of construction, precast beams and façades, tunnel linings, girders for bridges, platforms for metro works, sewage discharge units and underground facilities, etc. Prefabs are gaining popularity not only in the commercial buildings sector but also in the area of residential living spaces. Prefabricated buildings came into limelight during the world war periods as they were the fastest and affordable way to restore houses that were destroyed during the war. Prefabricated houses played a key role in eastern European countries, as well as the United Kingdom to reduce the housing shortages during the 20th century. However, prefabricated buildings are expected to become increasingly common in future due to the sustainability benefits they offer with their modern housing solutions.
Market Dynamics
Currently, a demand for prefabricated products, in various shapes and dimensions, can be seen. Prefabricated metal products are also used to fulfil modern architectural demands where the structures of the building have decorative elements with unique shapes. There is a trend in the increased usage of prefabricated components in the construction sector owing to the cost benefits and time constraints. Rapid urbanization and the need to overcome the shortage in housing, is providing a market scope for prefabricated structures. The Vietnam construction and development industry is expected to be the vibrant sector during the forecast period, considering the assured infrastructural development projects. This situation guarantees a market for prefabricated metal products. However, the market has a few constraints such as durability issues and lack of proper financing options for the prefabricated living spaces.

Vietnam Feed Base Mix Market – Growth, Trends, and Forecast (2018 – 2023)

The Vietnam feed base mix market was valued at USD 1.49 billion in 2017, and is expected to register a CAGR of 4.69%, during the forecast period.

Self-made feed is more common in Vietnam, since the price of feed ingredients is declining, while the price of industrial feed is stable. To reduce the production cost, Vietnamese farmers buy feed ingredients and mix them based on their experience. However, the exact ratio is known to very less number of farmers. Smallholders utilize a variety of feedstuffs, despite limited knowledge.
Improvement in the Meat Export Sector Driving the Market
The export market for meat in Vietnam is growing, owing to the free trade agreement between Vietnam and EU. Therefore, pressure on improving the domestic production of livestock and meat is rising, which is expected to increase the domestic demand for animal feed, thereby boosting the demand for feed base mix. The export meat market had grown from 2013 to 2016, at an average rate of USD 25,000 thousand, which is expected to increase the demand for animal feed.
Many commercial companies in Vietnam are moving toward international standards of meat production for exports and are adhering to the US standard, in order to provide a well-balanced nutritional feed to the animals in their farms, which means that they are looking for a well-balanced diet containing protein in the form of amino acid and carbohydrates, along with other nutrition.
Poultry Accounts for a Major Segment in the Market
There is a high requirement for carbohydrate-based feed for poultry in Vietnam, and the country depends on imports for high-protein sources, due to the demand-supply gap. Amino acids like lysine, methionine, threonine, and tryptophan are imperative in the livestock production. Lysine is a major amino acid required for livestock production, and is predominantly used for poultry applications in the country.
The birds in a non-intensive farming system are fed the by-products of local agricultural crops, such as corn, wheat, dry cassava, dry potato, broken rice, and rice bran. For a non-intensive poultry farmer, this procedure is very expensive, owing to the rising prices of fish powder and soybean seed cake. As a result, many farmers mix them at a lower rate, thereby compromising on the feed efficiency. Moreover, more than half of the farmers rely on the home-made feed that lacks nutritional balance. It also gets contaminated with fungus, toxicants, and poisons, due to the poor maintenance of raw materials and animal feed.
Major Players: EuromiX, Cargill Inc., Nutreco, Mixscience, The Honest Kitchen, and Dachan Food, among others.
